A lap (or two!) around Microsoft SQL Server
by Eric Nelson
SQL Server 2005 and 2008 introduced many new features which make it a great choice for building (very) small to (very) large databases. In this session we will explore the role of SQL Server in the delivery of great ColdFusion sites – from the basic use of Stored Procedures and Triggers to more advanced features such as storing and manipulating XML inside the database, exposing web services direct from the database, running C# and VB.NET code inside the database and the creation of highly available ColdFusion sites through technologies such as Clustering and Database Mirroring. Finally – we will take a lightning fast look at the other members of the SQL Server family and why they might also be of interest – including SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) for import/export of data and SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) to generate useful knowledge from the rich repositories of data generated by sites.
Upon leaving you should understand why SQL Server is a great choice for ColdFusion development and have many new areas to explore further.
The session assumes some experience of working with relational databases and exposure to writing simple SQL.
